On March 18th & 19th 2026, Team PHD from Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS) at Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (SBV) partnered with Special Olympics Bharat to conduct a comprehensive dental treatment program at Lawspet, Puducherry.
Special Olympics Bharat (SO Bharat) is the accredited National Sports Federation in India, recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It serves as a nodal agency for persons with intellectual disabilities, focusing on community unity and individual growth through inclusion.

Screening & Treatment: A team of 12 professionals screened 78 individuals, providing essential treatments including scaling, restorations, and extractions.
Oral prophylaxis – 18 cases
Restorative procedures – 8 cases
Extractions – 3 cases - On the second day, the program was conducted at Satya Special School, auroville . The outreach team consisted of 18 members, including 1 faculty, 3 postgraduates, 3 interns, 7 final-year students, and 4 third-year students.
- A total of 43 patients were screened. The treatment services rendered included:
Oral prophylaxis – 29 cases
Restorative procedures – 11 cases
An oral health education session was conducted on both days to reinforce the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene, particularly among children with special needs. Personalized oral hygiene instructions were given, and referrals were made for cases requiring further management. The two-day program was successfully conducted and effectively fulfilled its objectives of providing accessible oral healthcare services and promoting oral health awareness among the community, including individuals with special needs. - Education: An interactive session demonstrated proper brushing techniques, reinforcing the theme "A Happy Smile is a Happy Life".
- Wider Impact: Similar camps were also organized at the Satya Special School in Auroville as part of this month-long celebration.
