NOHP Puducherry- Public oral health awareness programmes conducted at Omangulam, karaikal

As part of a continuous effort to improve rural health outcomes, an Oral Health Awareness Program was successfully conducted for the general public at Omangulam, Karaikal. The initiative was spearheaded by dedicated student volunteers and interns from Vinayaka Mission’s Medical College (VMMC), Karaikal.

The program, aligned with the National Oral Health Programme (NOHP) Puducherry, focused on the following key areas:

• Oral Hygiene Education: Students delivered interactive talks emphasizing that oral health is a gateway to general well-being. They stressed the importance of regular dental check-ups and a balanced diet to prevent common ailments like dental caries and gum disease.
• Practical Demonstrations: Using illustrative models and banners, the VMMC students provided step-by-step instructions on proper brushing techniques and tongue cleaning to ensure effective plaque removal.
• Risk Factor Awareness: Attendees were educated on the harmful effects of tobacco products and their direct link to serious conditions such as oral cancer and systemic diseases.
• Community Impact: Nearly 30 local residents directly benefited from the session, receiving personalized guidance and gaining the confidence to prioritize their dental hygiene.
• The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, where residents clarified doubts regarding common dental problems and geriatric oral care, ensuring the message of "A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life" reached all age groups.
