The School of Stomatology held a series of activities for "3.20 Oral Health Day"
In active response to the call of the FDI World Dental Federation and the Chinese Stomatological Association, to enhance public awareness of oral health, popularize health knowledge, cultivate good habits, and promote physical and mental health, the School of Stomatology at Qiqihar Medical University successfully carried out activities themed "Oral Health, Physical and Mental Health" from March 20 to March 26, 2025, in celebration of "World Oral Health Day" on March 20th.
Ⅰ. Organization
Before the official launch of the event, our college posted a promotional poster themed "March 20 Oral Health Day" on the bulletin board in the north area of the main teaching building. The content of the poster focuses on oral health knowledge, aiming to promote scientific education among all students at Qiqihar Medical College. It is intended to fully engage students and encourage their active participation in this event.
This series of activities mainly includes the "Unveiling Oral Mysteries, Spreading Science Knowledge" oral science popularization competition, the "Illustrating Oral Mysteries, Displaying Science Charm" painting and design event, the "Instantly Shining Oral Knowledge, Sharing Science Together" theme collection activity, and the community oral knowledge popularization activities. In terms of specific participation, 10 people participated in the oral science popularization competition; 27 people engaged in the painting and design event; 23 people took part in the community science popularization; and 125 people joined the theme collection activity. According to statistics, a total of 187 people participated in this series of activities. The event received positive feedback and was a great success.
Ⅱ. An overview of the event
(1)"Exploring the secrets of oral cavity, spreading the gospel of science popularization" Oral Science Popularization Competition
"Unraveling the Mysteries of Oral Health, Spreading the Gospel of Science" Oral Health Science Promotion Competition was officially held at 1 pm on March 23rd in Room 203 of the North District, with a total of 10 contestants participating. During the competition, the contestants used vivid and interesting PowerPoint presentations, exquisite dental models, and interactive Q&A sessions to explain oral health knowledge in an accessible manner. Some focused on "the correct way to brush teeth," not only demonstrating the steps of the Bass brushing technique in detail but also humorously pointing out common mistakes people make when brushing their teeth, which drew nods of agreement from the audience. Others concentrated on "all about wisdom teeth," explaining from the growth principles to the necessity of extraction, and sharing personal experiences to make the originally complex medical knowledge entertaining and engaging. All contestants' presentations were strictly based on a scientific oral health knowledge system, with solid theoretical foundations and easy-to-understand language, aiming to make the general public receptive to the key points of this knowledge. To enhance the appeal of the presentations, contestants innovatively combined cases and stories in their presentation styles and actively interacted with the audience through Q&A sessions, offering the audience an educational feast that was both scientific and entertaining.
In this competition, the presentation of contestant Jia Xinhui was highly praised. Her science popularization content was rich and humorous, quoting English proverbs, and integrated with the current "trend of the times"--Deep Seek has deeply explored many popular cases, setting up some thought-provoking small stories to engage the audience. She explained in simple and understandable language the methods of oral prevention and the scientific principles behind them.
This competition not only provides a platform for students to show themselves, but also sets off a wave of attention on oral health in the campus. It also passes more practical oral health knowledge to teachers and students, helping to create a healthy campus living environment, so that everyone can bloom with confident and bright smiles and have a healthy and beautiful life.
(2) "Draw the Secrets of the Mouth, Show the Style of Science Popularization" painting design activity
"The Art of Oral Secrets, Displaying the Charm of Science Popularization" painting and design activity ran from March 20 to March 26, with a total of 27 participants submitting their works. This event used creative poster design as a medium to ignite students enthusiasm for exploring oral science knowledge. Through intuitive, engaging, and visually appealing forms, it aimed to widely disseminate professional oral health knowledge. The activity received enthusiastic responses from students of the 2022-2024 cohorts. With their brushes in hand, the students skillfully transformed abstract and obscure professional content into vivid and lifelike images.
Through a rigorous and meticulous selection process, ultimately 10 outstanding works emerged from among the many entries. These works, with their meticulous brushwork, skillfully depict the microscopic structures inside the oral cavity, allowing viewers to gain a more intuitive understanding of oral tissues such as teeth and gums; through lively and interesting comic forms, they demonstrate correct brushing techniques and the use of dental floss for oral care; with striking contrasts, they present the different impacts of healthy and unhealthy dietary habits on oral health.
This event successfully integrated art and science popularization, enriching students extracurricular lives while enhancing their awareness of oral health. It was not only a painting and design activity but also a successful campaign to spread knowledge about oral health, planting the seeds of concern for oral health in the hearts of the students.
(3) "Snap and Share Oral Science" theme collection activity
"Snap and Share Oral Health, Share Knowledge Together" theme collection activity started on March 20, 2025, and ended on March 26, attracting 125 students to participate enthusiastically in just one week. During the event, students logged into the FDI "World Oral Health Day" event website, followed the steps to create personalized promotional posters. They uploaded photos showing oral health smiles, chose their favorite colors and slogans, and after completion, shared them on their Moments, accompanied by scientific popularization texts.
These posters come in various styles, some exuding youthful vitality, others brimming with warm care. All center on oral health, vividly interpreting the theme of "oral health, mental well-being." The copy closely follows the events theme, covering everything from proper brushing techniques to the necessity of regular dental check-ups. It comprehensively disseminates knowledge about oral hygiene, urging friends and family to pay attention to oral health, emphasizing its close connection to overall well-being.
This event not only sparked the creativity and enthusiasm of the students but also effectively achieved the goal of raising public awareness. Through hands-on participation in production and dissemination, the students gained a deeper understanding of the importance of oral health. They also transformed into science communicators, spreading knowledge to more people and helping to cultivate good oral hygiene habits among the general public.
(4) Oral knowledge community science popularization activities
The Oral Health Community Education Event took place on March 22nd at 2 PM, organized by the Youth Volunteer Department of the Oral Medicine Colleges General Branch. Volunteers visited Mingyue Community to conduct an innovative oral health education activity. At the event site, volunteers displayed pre-made health promotion boards and prepared a variety of rich promotional materials and small gifts. The volunteer lecturers from the Oral Medicine College delivered a lively and engaging oral health lecture for the residents. Using simple and understandable language, they combined everyday life examples to explain in detail the importance of oral health, as well as the causes and prevention methods of common oral issues. The content covered topics such as preventing cavities, proper tooth brushing techniques, and the hazards of periodontal disease.
In addition, to ensure that more residents who could not attend the event in person also received oral health education, volunteers entered community squares and proactively distributed promotional materials to passersby. They patiently and meticulously explained key points of oral health knowledge, striving to spread the concept of oral health to every corner of the community, allowing as many residents as possible to benefit from this educational initiative.
For some complex and professional oral problems raised by residents, volunteers will record the contact information of residents in detail, and then invite doctors to conduct in-depth analysis of these problems, and provide further follow-up guidance services for relevant residents, so as to ensure that residents can obtain professional and accurate oral health advice.
III. Effectiveness of activities
This event enhanced public awareness of oral health. Focusing on the theme "Oral Health, Mental and Physical Well-being," it successfully attracted active participation from 1 87 students and community residents. Through a variety of engaging activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of the importance of oral health, promoting knowledge dissemination. In the oral health education competition, contestants educated students about proper oral care through lively and interesting presentations and live demonstrations.During the painting design activity, students showcased oral health knowledge vividly through creative posters. At the community oral health education event, volunteers interacted directly with residents through lectures and distributing promotional materials. In the theme collection activity, 125 students actively participated, demonstrating their creativity and concern for oral health. These activities not only increased resident engagement and strengthened the connection between the medical school and the community but also sparked students creativity and enthusiasm for participation, fostering their sense of social responsibility and creating a healthy campus atmosphere, laying a solid foundation for future health education initiatives.
